Chapter Eternal: Sam McClure ’59

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sam McClure ’59 into Chapter Eternal. We want to extend our deepest sympathies to Sam’s family, friends, and loved ones. He will be deeply missed.

Sammy Joe McClure, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home on October 8, 2021, surrounded by his family.

Sam was born June 10, 1937 to the late Norman and Kate McClure. He graduated from Fritchton High School in 1955 and Purdue University in 1959, majoring in Agriculture. Sam was self-employed with McClure Farms. He sold his farm and retired in 2001. He loved farming, NASCAR racing, spending winters in Florida, and having fun with family and friends.

Sam moved from Vincennes, Indiana in 2012 to Newburgh, Indiana. He was a member of Living Word Christian Church.

Sam is survived by his wife, Wilma Winkler McClure, his son, Troy McClure and his wife Kim, grandchildren, Hayden, McClure, Reid McClure, and Kayla Bond, and nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Kate and Norman McClure, twin sister, Nancy Cunningham, and daughters, Lisa and Andrea.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on November 6, 2021 in Vincennes, Indiana at Goodwin-Sievers Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the McClure family from 1-4 pm at the funeral home. Sam will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery and the burial will be private. There will be a gathering at the Harmony Society, 111 N. 2nd, Vincennes, IN starting at 5:00 pm on Saturday at the conclusion of Sam’s memorial service for anyone wanting to attend.
