Brothers, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brother Ad Astra: Frederick Schramm ’64 into Ad Astra. We want to extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and loved ones.

Frederick Cullen Schramm, born on November 16,1942, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on June 22, 2025, in Del Mar, California. He lost the battle against bone marrow cancer which turned into acute myeloid leukemia.
Fred graduated from St. Charles Preparatory School, Columbus, Ohio, in 1960.
Fred received his BS in Industrial Engineering in 1965 from Purdue University where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity and the ROTC.
Fred was in the U. S. Army in 1965-1968, with 81st Maintenance Battalion in Mannheim and Kaiserslautern in Germany, was its 91st Light Equipment Maintenance Company’s Commander 1967-68, and achieved the rank of Captain.
Fred completed his MBA at Indiana-Purdue University, Indianapolis, in 1971.
Fred worked for Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals (1965-1993): with their International division in Strasbourg, France, and Giessen, Germany 1973-1978, with their new subsidiaries IVAC and Hybritech in San Diego 1978-1993- and was Vice-President of Operations at both.
Fred then joined Advanced Tissue Sciences then First Medical till 1998.
Fred is survived by his wife; his sister in France; his three children and one stepdaughter, and their spouses; five grandchildren, two step grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A Celebration of Fred’s life with family and friends was scheduled for August 11,2025. Fred’s ashes will be moved to Miramar National Cemetery on August 12,2025, following the military honors.
